We are Humbled By the Public’s Response to the Only Certified Lice Removal Facility on the Treasure Coast
It’s hard to describe what it is like to wake up every morning feeling thankful to have the best job on this earth. While I certainly recognized the need for a certified lice removal facility for treatment on the Treasure Coast, what I never expected was that unbelievable feeling of satisfaction which only happens when people are genuinely thankful for you and the work you are doing.
So many feel guilty their child has contracted lice, as if there were any way they could have prevented it. Or, they feel totally humiliated that they had somehow gotten these bugs in their hair and that somehow their personal hygiene was less than adequate. It is sometimes heart wrenching to see how the myths of who gets lice and how they get them can destroy people’s self-confidence.
One mom actually hugged me and broke into tears when we were able to help her daughter become head lice free for the first time in many months. She had tried everything and had spent money the family didn’t have in her attempts to stop the head lice they continually contracted. Her daughter had missed so much school and had suffered the cruelty only children can deliver at times like these. While I was very glad we were able to help them, it was really hard to imagine the nightmare they had been living for those months of having head lice.
Our clients have been coming from all over, including as far south as Jupiter and as far north as Sebastian and Melbourne. We have done our best to be as centrally located as possible so we can serve people from Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie counties.
Speaking of Sebastian, not long ago a mom and her eight-year-old daughter walked into our lice treatment salon. They were both nervous, but the mom seemed even more so than the daughter. After a few minutes of looking around and observing the activity of the shop, they finally said they would like a “head check” for nits and lice, so naturally we were quick to respond.
It turned out they both had lice. We treated them immediately using the Shepherd Method of removing the live lice and the nits. The Shepherd Method calls for a very thorough exercise of examining and using a special comb to go through a person’s hair strand-by-strand until we get them all. They were very, very happy and laughed while telling me they had just come to “check us out,” not to actually get a lice treatment.
Apparently, we passed their test with flying colors because when they left, they asked for flyers and brochures so they could pass them out to their friends and teachers up in Sebastian.
They really have been coming in from all over the Treasure Coast. We’ve had people come in from Palm City, Stuart and Hobe Sound. People tell us they are so glad there is now a place to get a certified lice treatment near them. Many had been driving to Palm Beach and Orlando. Now people in Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach and all over the Treasure Coast have access to lice removal treatments that truly work.
